I took this picture from the dike (river is behind me) looking at the Sahel wall. Today the water between the dike and the wall began rising from a dike break upriver.
When we realized the water was on the move we began to frantically fill sandbags.
The is a picture of the compound on the north side of Sahel's wall.
Ten minutes later that house collapsed.
More pictures of the flood waters outside Sahel's compound.
More sandbagging.
Back on the dike looking at Sahel's wall. Since I took this picture the water has almost reached the openings.
This is the first attempt to sandbag the gush of water from upstream. It was later abandoned and other spots were targeted. Sahel is almost totally surrounded by water.
